What organs are there around the rectum?

Time:2020-02-28 11:30:25 Popularity:152

The rectum is only half inside the abdominal cavity, and its front and upper sides are covered by a thin and smooth peritoneum. There is a clear depression between its front and the male bladder or female uterus, which is called a rectovesical depression in males and a rectouterine depression in females. The anterior part of the abdominal cavity is adjacent to the bladder and prostate in males, while in females, it is adjacent to the uterus and vagina. The posterior part is close to the sacrum and descends, so it has the same curvature as the sacrum. There are lateral ligaments on both sides of the rectum that secure the rectum to the pelvic wall to prevent its relaxation and prolapse.
